About this site

My name is Edward Kopka, which is probably something you already know, considering the purpose of this site is for me to share my travel adventures with my friends. If by chance you find this site in the wilds of the internet then I hope you will enjoy learning a little bit about me. My desire is for anyone who is interested to share in my experiences traveling Europe and the World as a digital nomad.

This is by no means meant to be a very professional site. So please forgive me for any grammatical errors or poor writing quality. Mostly I hope to share a post on here once every two weeks or so with a few pictures and some comments detailing some new travel experience. Honestly, my main use case for this site is for it to be slightly more advanced than sharing posts on Instagram. I want this site to be a way for me to efficiently share photos from my travel adventures with my friends and family.

If you do not know, at the end of September 2023 I left my home country of Australia and became a digital nomad. (A huge shout out to my employer Imminently who have made it possible for me travel as a nomad). A digital nomad is someone who travels while working remotely using a computer (and good wifi). This has been something I have been wanting to do for a long time and I am so excited that I finally can do this.

You might also know that I enjoy a spot of photography. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to pursue photography as a hobby for a number of years, but I do still enjoy capturing the scenery around me. Given that I am traveling now I will most definitely be taking more photos and I really want to share these photos with my friends. I can't promise the photos will be exceptional or anything like that, but I hope you can enjoy them anyway.

Why a website?

Given the above, you might ask, why don't I use Instagram or some other social media platform to fulfill this purpose? It is a good question with no one answer but multiple reasons each combining to persuade me to try something like this. I won't iterate through my entire thought process but rather summarise some of the main reasons.

Instagram was my biggest alternative option, I have used it in the past for this purpose (when I traveled to Poland) but I was hesitant to return to it again. Not all my friends are on Instagram and I really wanted to provide a way for anyone to access my content without needing to sign up for any service. Additionally, social media is something that I am actively working to cut out of my life. I have found those services a little too addicting for me, so they are not really a model I want to support by regularly posting to them.

However, the truly biggest reason for why I want make this site is because I honestly want the challenge. I want to see if I can make regular posts with some pictures and text that will be enjoyable to view and read. Given this, please do provide your feedback to me. Let me know what you like and want to see more off and what you don't. Just keep in mind that I do have limited time. This site may not be perfect, but I hope it will be good.

A little more about me

I am from Canberra, the capital of Australia. I love hiking and nature, so you can expect to see many nature photos. I'm also a fan of history. This is one the reason I came to Europe, as I want to explore the history of this place.
